AFTERCARE

Derm-Shield Aftercare

Congratulations on your new tattoo! You’ve just got yourself a permanent piece of art that will last a lifetime. But before you show it off to the world, you need to take good care of it. Here are some simple steps to follow:

  1. Keep the derm shield on for 3 to 5 days, depending on your artist’s recommendation. The derm shield is a clear film that protects your tattoo from bacteria, dirt, and water. It also allows your skin to breathe and heal naturally.
  2. Don’t worry if you see some blood, plasma, or ink inside the derm shield. That’s normal and part of the healing process. It means your tattoo is alive and kicking!
  3. Resist the urge to peel, scratch, or poke the derm shield. It’s not a sticker, it’s a shield! If you mess with it, you might damage your tattoo or cause an infection. Just let it do its job and be patient.
  4. After the recommended time, gently remove the derm shield by peeling it back over itself. Do this under warm running water to make it easier and less painful. Don’t rip it off like a band-aid, unless you want to scream like a baby.
  5. Wash your tattoo with mild soap and water, and pat it dry with a clean towel. Don’t rub or scrub it, or you might irritate your skin or fade your ink.
  6. Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion to your tattoo once or twice a day, as needed. Don’t use any products that contain alcohol, fragrance, or petroleum. They might dry out your skin or cause an allergic reaction.
  7. Avoid direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and anything else that might expose your tattoo to harmful UV rays, chemicals, or bacteria. Your tattoo is still healing and needs to be protected from these elements.
  8. Enjoy your new tattoo and flaunt it with pride! You’ve just added some flair to your body and personality. Be prepared to receive compliments, questions, and maybe even some envy from others.

Remember, a tattoo is not just a decoration, it’s a commitment. Follow these steps and you’ll have a beautiful and healthy tattoo for years to come. Thank you for choosing grand flourish tattoos as your trusted studio. We hope to see you again soon!

Classic aftercare

Whether it is your first tattoo or one of many, we are glad you chose us to ink your skin. Now, it is up to you to take good care of your tattoo and make sure it heals properly. Here are some tips and instructions to follow:

Aftercare Instructions

  • Keep the bandage on for at least 2 hours. Do not remove it before then, as it protects your tattoo from bacteria and dirt. If the bandage sticks to your skin, soak it with warm water and gently peel it off.
  • Wash your tattoo gently with non-scented antibacterial soap and water. Use your hand, not a washcloth or sponge, and avoid rubbing or scratching the area. Pat it dry with a clean towel or paper towel.
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer. We recommend using H2Ocean, Aquaphor, A&D ointment, or Hustle Butter. Do not use petroleum jelly, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide, as they can damage your tattoo. Repeat this step 2-3 times a day for the first week.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, and soaking. Your tattoo needs to breathe and heal, so do not expose it to harsh UV rays, chlorine, salt water, or hot tubs. Also, do not submerge your tattoo in water for long periods of time, such as in a bath or shower.
  • Do not pick or scratch your tattoo. It is normal for your tattoo to scab and peel during the healing process. Do not interfere with this natural process by picking or scratching the scabs or flakes. This can cause infection, scarring, and fading of your tattoo.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Avoid wearing tight or abrasive clothing that can rub or irritate your tattoo. Choose soft and breathable fabrics that allow air circulation and prevent sweating.
  • Follow these instructions for 2-4 weeks. Depending on the size and location of your tattoo, it may take longer or shorter to heal completely. Be patient and diligent with your aftercare routine, and contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
